The Church of Christ Lekki was planted as a result of the July 1990 dislocation of the inhabitants of the old Maroko area of Lekki by the then Military governor of Lagos state, Colonel Raji Rasaki. The Maroko Church began in 1967 until they along with inhabitants of Maroko were evicted in 1990.
Many of the brethren then either left Lagos or placed their membership with other congregations. A sizeable number of the brethren started meeting at Archbishop Taylor primary school, opposite Eko Hotel, Victoria Island Lagos until early November 1991, when the church was locked out forcing the church to meet for worship at Eko Hotel Bus Stop.
Effort was seriously made to rent a hall at Eti-Osa local Government Office at sand-fill but to no avail. There and then Bro. Effiong Tommy Udoh now late encouraged the brethren to come and use his residence at Block 336, Flat2, Illasan (Jakande Housing Esate), Lekki Lagos for worship. On Sunday 24th November, 1991, the church started meeting at his residence for worship. Attendance was less than twenty (20) including few children and the collection was Sixty Naira (N60).
Some of the brethren who were in attendance that first day include Late Bro. E.T. Udoh, Sis. Ester E.T. Udoh, Late Bro. F.S. Idango, Bro. Harry Enin, Bro.F.S.Attah, Bro. Ekpo Eyo, Bro. E.J. Akpan, Bro. Christopher O. Ukpabi, Bro. Emmanuel Udoh, Sis. Happiness Udoh, Bro. Monday Umoren, Bro. Augustine Udoh and Bro. Imeh M. Akpan
Other brethren later joined and as the number was increasing, the brethren then decided to apply to the Executive Secretary, Local Education Authority for use of the classrooms in Maiyegun primary school Lekki on the 14th July, 1993. The brethern continued to meet and pay monthly bill until May 1994 when Lagos State Government stopped churches form meeting in government schools. The Church had no alternative than to return to block 336, flat 2 Jakande Housing Estate, but the place was too small to contain the attendance. On 4th February, 1996 the brethren applied to the CDA for a space along Road B, Jakande Housing estate, beside Bar Beach Market Lekki. We were relocated to the present site as the report had it then that where we cleared belong to the government.
Because the brethren had considered this place to be temporal, The brethren applied to the Lagos State Government at Alausa Ikeja for a permanent location and it paid off on the 28th February, 1995 with an allocation costing a total of N1,350,000 (One Million, Three Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira Only) which we did not had enough money to pay within the period given hence the land was taken, we applied for another allocation/regularization of the present place also and this place was also survey by LBIC anf on 4th December, 2001, provisional allocation was given us from LBIC.
By God’s grace we have worked and planted two more congregations of the Lord, namely Church of Christ Ado/Badore and Church of Christ Sangotedo including Church of Igando-Ibeju which was jointly planted by the Churches of Christ all in Lekki Lagos, with support from Lagos Island Church of Christ. Bro. F.S Attach a pioneer member of the Lekki Church and also a brother from the Maroko congregation continues in his role as the Preacher for the Lekki Church of Christ.
